The legal requirement
Under the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995, Section 11, applicants for a new HGV operator licence — or those varying an existing licence to add an operating centre — must publish a notice in a local newspaper circulating in the area of the operating centre.
The notice must contain prescribed information including the applicant's name, the address of the operating centre, the type of licence applied for, and the number of vehicles and trailers to be kept at that centre.
The Traffic Commissioner will not process your application until evidence of publication has been provided. Failure to advertise — or advertising in the wrong newspaper — will delay your application.
